Out of the box the player is 16:9. That ratio comes from the `apprendly-sizer`
element, which props the shape open with `padding-bottom: 56.25%`, while the
wrapper around it is `height: 100%`. A percentage height only resolves against a
parent that has a definite height of its own - so while your container has no
height, the sizer is what decides it.
**To get a different shape, give your own container a height.** The wrapper
takes that height instead, the sizer stops contributing, and the frame fills
whatever box you asked for. You do not need to override anything in `embed.css`:

Two things worth knowing when you do this:
- **Cap the height against the viewport width as well as its height.** Above,
the width is derived from the height, so on a tall narrow screen a height of
`92dvh` would push the player wider than the window. `122vw` is the same
limit expressed as a width: 92 / 0.75 = 122.
- **The player can resize itself.** It may ask to go fullscreen, which adds a
`fullscreen` class to `.apprendly-player-wrapper` and an
`apprendly-fullscreen` class to ``. While that is active your box no
longer applies, so avoid locking `body { overflow }` from your own code - the
fullscreen styles set it themselves.
#### Methods
All methods are called on the `window.apprendly` object (`window.apprendly.addEmbed`, etc).
#### addEmbed(embedId, options = {})
Used for initializing embeds on demand. Used in combination with a `
` on the page which uses the same embedId in its `data-apprendly-embed` property (see example code).
##### options
Pass an object with any options you want to include. The supported options are:

Triggered when a user finishes a game. Contains information about the completed/passed status as well as score info.

**NB:** Make sure to check "passed" to see if someone has gotten through a game with an acceptable score. "Completed" only means that they've completed the game (no matter if they've passed or failed the test).

#### The character can't hear me when I'm talking
First, make sure that you're using the Push To Talk functionality correctly - either by holding down spacebar (on a computer) or by holding down the microphone button (on phone/tablet). Keep holding the button down while you're speaking, and only let go of it when you're done speaking and want the character to respond.
Secondly, check that the correct mic/input source is selected at Settings -> Audio settings, and that your microphone works as it should.
#### The game is lagging/low quality
Most likely this is happening because of a slow or unstable connection. For the best experience, use WiFi or cabled network, on a connection of at least 10Mbps.
#### The web player is stuck in "Connecting"
This could happen if your network is blocking the connection to our game server (specifically, WebRTC).
**Suggested actions:**
- Try playing the game on a different network, e.g. your home network or on 5G, to check if it really is a network issue
- Ask your IT department if they are blocking the service, and if a whitelist would be possible for pxs.apprend.ly (port 443).
#### Error message: "Your network might be blocking the service"
Most likely your network/internet connection is blocking the games, because of firewall settings or similar. Some companies block all UDP traffic or video streams like the RolePlays - or even mark us as "gaming".
**Suggested actions:**
- Try playing the game on a different network, e.g. your home network or on 5G, to check if it really is a network issue
- Ask your IT department if they are blocking the service, and if a whitelist would be possible
For unblocking, it's necessary to allow WebSockets to webplayer.apprendly.com, and WebRTC traffic using at least turn1.apprend.ly.
#### I accidentally denied microphone access. What should I do?
**iPhone:** If you're using a web browser, simply **reload the page**. If you're in an app, exit Apprendly RolePlay and then re-enter it. If you're still having trouble granting microphone access, it might be turned off at the system level. In that case, you'll need to **open your phone's Settings**, go to "Apps" or "Applications," find the app that has the issue, and **grant microphone access there**. After that, you can re-enter the game and reload the page.
**Android:** You'll receive a message where you can tap **"Help"** for a guide on how to enable microphone access.
#### I can't connect with the characters. What might be wrong?
First, **check your internet connection**. You need a stable connection to communicate with the characters. Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network or using mobile data if your signal is strong enough. You can also try **reloading the page** in your browser. #### The conversation is choppy or delayed. What can I do?
This is often caused by a **poor internet connection**. Try moving closer to a Wi-Fi router or checking your mobile data coverage. **Close other tabs or apps** that might be using a lot of bandwidth. If the problem continues, try reloading the page.
#### The audio is poor, or I can't hear the character. What's the problem?
**Check the volume on your device**. Ensure your microphone isn't covered and that your speaker is working correctly. For the best audio experience, consider using **headphones**. Excessive noise in your surroundings can also make it difficult for the AI character to understand or pick up what you're saying.
#### The character can't hear what I'm saying
**Check your headphones** if you're using them.
**iPhone:** Check your phone's **Settings** to see which device is being used for the microphone.

##### Browser Permissions:
Ensure your web browser has permission to access your microphone for the Apprendly RolePlay website.
- **Chrome/Edge:** Look for a camera/microphone icon in the address bar when on the RolePlay page. Click it and ensure "Allow" is selected for your microphone.
- **Firefox:** Click the padlock icon in the address bar, then "Permissions," and ensure "Use the microphone" is set to "Allow."

##### Disable Exclusive Mode (Windows):
Sometimes, other applications can take exclusive control of the microphone.

This is an **interactive role-playing game** from Apprendly where you communicate with digital characters using your phone. The goal is to **learn and explore engaging scenarios** as a part of training.
##### What do I need to participate?
You'll need a **smartphone, computer, or tablet (or even a fridge!) with a microphone** and a **stable internet connection**. Apprendly RolePlay runs directly in your web browser; there's no need to download a separate app.
##### Do I need any prior experience to use RolePlay?
Not at all. RolePlay is designed to be intuitive for first-time users. If you can open a link and talk, you can use it. Many teams use RolePlay as a low-pressure way to practice skills, so the learning curve is intentionally light. Bring curiosity, test a few scenarios, and you will pick it up quickly.
##### What formats are supported for embedding RolePlays?
RolePlay supports **SCORM 1.2**, **SCORM 2004 4th Edition**, and **cmi5/xAPI** packages for LMS embedding. All packages are downloaded from the Share menu in your dashboard. **No**, your conversations are not used to train an AI. We **keep personal data to a minimum**, and conversation data is **anonymized automatically**. ##### How is my personal data handled?
We take privacy seriously. We **minimize the personal data we collect**: RolePlay works without personal identifiers. #### What can you do
Sometimes, the system may detect an issue that has already been resolved and does not impact your experience.
If you do notice performance issues, you can usually still complete the RolePlay, though the quality may be lower than normal.
If the issue does not significantly affect your training, your session and reporting remain valid.
However, if the experience is degraded enough to impact your training, we recommend revisiting the RolePlay later, ensuring your device and internet connection are functioning optimally.
